BIG EAST Conference Football Weekly Award Winners

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tiquan Underwood, Jr., WR, Rutgers

Lawrenceville, N.J.

Underwood had the second-best day by a receiver in BIG EAST history as he caught 10 passes for 248 yards and touchdowns of 65 and 66 yards in the Scarlet Knights’ 38-3 win against Buffalo. The yardage total broke a 41-year-old school record and stands behind Ernest Wilford’s 279-yard effort for Virginia Tech in the 2002 season on the conference’s single-game chart.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mike Mickens, Jr., CB, Cincinnati

Huber Heights, Ohio

Mickens had two interceptions and six tackles to lead the Bearcats to a 59-3 win against Southeast Missouri State. His first interception came in the end zone to end a scoring threat, and he returned his second pick for a 45-yard touchdown. He led a Cincinnati secondary that limited Southeast Missouri State to just 87 passing yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Dave Brytus, Jr., P, Pittsburgh

McDonald, Pa.

Brytus averaged 45.4 yards on five punts in the Panthers’ 27-3 win against Eastern Michigan. He dropped one punt inside the 20-yard line and a long punt of 56 yards.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Tyler Lorenzen, QB, Connecticut — 22 for 30, 298 yards, two TDs in 45-14 win against Duke.

Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville — 16-for-21, 375 yards, four TDs and one rushing TD in 73-10 win against Murray State.

George Selvie, DE, USF — Had four sacks, six tackles for loss and 10 total tackles in a 28-13 win against Elon.

Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia — 109 rushing yards, 61 receiving yards, four total TDs in 62-24 win against Western Michigan.

Patrick White, QB, West Virginia — 10-for-18, 192 yards, two TDs, 97 rushing yards, two rush TDs in 62-24 win against Western Michigan.
