UC begins BIG EAST play
on the National Stage with Friday night date vs.
Pittsburgh
* The University of Cincinnati
opens BIG EAST Conference play hosting Pittsburgh
in a Friday night (Sept. 8) prime time contest that
will be televised nationally by ESPN2 and ESPN Mobile.
Kickoff is 8 p.m. at Nippert Stadium.
* The matchup of the two 1-0 teams features an experienced
Bearcat defense facing a talented Panther offense.
UC's defense stole the show in the Bearcats' 31-0
season opener win over Eastern Kentucky last Saturday,
posting the school's first shutout in 123 games.
Pitt enters the game after rolling up 38 points
in a 38-13 victory over Virginia.
* UC's offense will be led by the quarterback tandem
of Dustin Grutza and Nick Davila. Last week, the
pair combined to complete 19-of-34 passes for 282
yards and two touchdowns. Moreover, they engineered
an offense that did not commit a turnover.
* The Cincinnati-Pittsburgh matchup is titled the
River City Rivalry. The first of three trophy games
on UC's schedule, the River City Rivalry trophy
is comprised of a riverboat telegraph-a brass device
for signaling the engine room-and a silhouette of
the Ohio River.
* Cincinnati is looking for its first win in the
series, which dates back 85 years. Pittsburgh leads
the all-time series, 5-0. The Panthers won last
year's meeting, 38-20.
* The game is Youth Football Night as well as NCAA
Take a Kid to the Game Night. UC will provide tickets
to all area youth football teams (8th grade and
below) with reduced price tickets available for
all parents and family members. Any child (age 13
and under) will be admitted free with a paid adult
admission.
