Carvitti Lost for Remainder of the Season
CINCINNATI, Ohio – University of Cincinnati senior defensive tackle Tony Carvitti will miss the remainder of the 2006 football campaign after suffering a season-ending injury midway through the third quarter of the Bearcats’ 24-10 victory over Miami University on Saturday.
Carvitti, a Cincinnati native underwent reconstructive surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee earlier today. University of Cincinnati team orthopedist Dr. Angelo Colosimo performed the surgery on Monday at University Hospital.
Carvitti carded two stops, including one for an 8-yard loss and rumbled 15 yards with his first collegiate fumble return in the 111th edition of the Battle for the Victory Bell.
The 6-0, 250-pound defensive tackle earned a scholarship in 2005, after spending two seasons as a walk-on. A starter in each of the first five games of the year, the Elder High School graduate totaled 12 tackles, including two quarterback sacks.
Anderson and Moore Make Honor Roll
Junior running back Greg Moore and sophomore defensive tackle Trevor Anderson were cited for their performances in UC’s 24-10 win over Miami University in the 111th Battle for the Victory Bell by the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll.
Moore gained 119 yards rushing on 20 carries, including a touchdown from two yards out in the first quarter. His 119 yards on the ground established a single-game high for the Dayton, Ohio product.
Anderson totaled four tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback sack in the 24-10 triumph. The 6-2, 258-pound sophomore also carded four quarterback hurries and keyed a Bearcat defense that yielded just 36 yards rushing.
Keg of Nails Clash to be Televised by ESPNU
Cincinnati’s matchup at Louisville on Oct. 14 has been selected for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff time. The annual battle for the Keg of Nails will be televised by ESPNU. UC leads the all-time series, 26-18-1.
