Strausser Returning To Boise State
BOULDER — Chris Strausser, University of Colorado assistant head football coach as well as the offensive line coach, will return to Boise State as the team’s tight ends coach and run game coordinator.
Strausser, 43, came to Colorado a year ago with new head coach Dan Hawkins, but decided to return to Boise when a spot on Chris Petersen’s staff became available when offensive line and assistant head coach Sean Kugler left to take an assistant’s position with the Buffalo Bills. Petersen announced Strausser’s return on Thursday.
Strausser spent five seasons (2001-2005) as Boise State’s offensive line coach, the last three of which he also served as the Broncos assistant head coach. He and his wife, Cathy, are the parents of two pre-teen daughters.
“Quite honestly, it’s just an opportunity for us to get back to where we loved living and where we have family,” Strausser said. “Boise was a place that we all enjoyed, and it’s really about what my wife and I think is best for our family. Not that we didn’t enjoy our time in Colorado, and working for Hawk was great. He’s going to do a great job here; I should know, I’ve been with him for six years. I’ll definitely miss working with this staff, it’s as good a staff as I’ve ever been on. But I am fortunate enough to return to a place that we’re very familiar with, which is kind of a rarity in coaching.”
Hawkins’ timetable to replace Strausser is fairly immediate; he would like get a new coach on board prior to the start of spring practice, which is set for March 12.
“Chris has been a great coach, but an even greater friend and confidant,” Hawkins said. “This is what he and Cathy thinks is best for his family, and I respect that. He’s been by my side throughout this whole deal, he always did a great job, he was doing that here, and we’ll all miss him. I wish him nothing but the best.”
“We are very happy to have Chris return to Boise State,” Petersen stated. “Chris brings a lot of experience to our program, and he already knows our expectations. We are looking forward to having Chris and his family back in Boise.”
