Kragthorpe Retains Five Members of Previous Staff; Adds Four Others

University of Louisville head football coach Steve Kragthorpe has announced that five assistant coaches from the previous staff have been retained and three assistants from his previous staff at Tulsa will join the Cardinal program. The Cardinals are still one coach short, but are expected to name the running backs coach on Monday.

Mike Cassity, Reggie Johnson, Greg Nord and Jeff Brohm will all be back next season, while Director of Football Operations Greg Brohm was also asked to return. Cassity will be the co-defensive coordinator and coach the safeties, while Reggie Johnson will tutor the linebackers. Returning for his 13th season at Louisville, Greg Nord will coach tight ends, while Jeff Brohm was elevated to assistant head coach, passing game coordinator and will coach the quarterbacks.

Kragthorpe brought three coaches from the former Tulsa staff to join him in the Derby City. Former Tulsa offensive coordinator Charlie Stubbs will take over the Louisville offense and coach the wide receivers, while Mark Patterson will serve as the co-defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach. Keith Nelson is hired to take over the defensive line and coach the special teams. Brent Myers, who worked the last four seasons at Arizona State, was also hired to coach the offensive line.
