Limited Space Remains for Sweetheart Clinic
HUNTINGTON – The Marshall University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will host the 10th Annual Sweetheart Clinic Sunday, Jan. 28. Girls age 12 and under are invited to participate. Only a few spaces remain for the popular event, so participants must pre-register individually on a first-come, first-served basis. No walk-ups will be accepted
Pre-registration, which will be conducted via e-mail only, will begin Thursday, Jan. 4 through Wednesday, Jan. 17, or until the Clinic is full. To pre-register, please visit www.HerdZone.com and click the 2007 Sweetheart Clinic link at the bottom of the page. Registrants must provide their name, home address, telephone number, e-mail address, t-shirt size, and age.
The Sweetheart Clinic is sponsored this year by Marshall Athletics, Edward Jones, West Virginia Smart 529, Pepsi, Papa John’s Pizza, Graphic Solutions, Aeropostale and Conference USA. The program began in 1998 in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Since its inception, more than 1,000 girls have participated and had the opportunity to learn developmental skills in nine women’s sports.
Participants will be divided into age groups and will rotate through eight different stations, learning developmental sports skills from Marshall coaches and student-athletes. In addition to developmental skill instruction, participants will receive a free gift provided by C-USA and Aeropostale.
Check-in for participants will last 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. in Gullickson Gym. The Clinic will begin promptly at 11:30 a.m. Following the Clinic, participants will enjoy a pizza party and a Marshall University Cheerleaders-led pep rally sponsored by Pepsi and Papa John’s Pizza. Participants will then be invited to attend the Marshall women’s basketball nationally televised game versus East Carolina at 3:00 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center.
The Clinic, including pizza party, pep rally and the women’s basketball game, is free to participants. Parents and observers may purchase a ticket to the women’s basketball game. Single-game tickets for women’s basketball games are available for $5 for adults and $3 for children through the Marshall Athletic Ticket Office.
Registration information or questions regarding the Sweetheart Clinic may be sent to Randi Nielson at nielson1@marshall.edu or by calling (304) 696-3394.
