Marshall Football Post Season Banquet
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University’s football program honored the class of 2006 and its award winners at the annual banquet on Saturday at the Pullman Plaza Hotel in Huntington.

Twenty one seniors were honored and eight annual awards were handed out at the well attended banquet that featured an address from former Marshall assistant football coach Red Dawson.

The 2006 Tom Stark Award was presented to senior punter Ian O’Connor and senior quarterback Jimmy Skinner.

Senior linebacker Matt Couch, senior defensive end Shavar Greer, junior center Doug Legursky and junior quarterback Bernard Morris received the team captain awards.

The 15th annual J.D. Coffman Award that is presented annually to the scout team players of the year went to quarterback Wesley Beardain on offense, linebacker Howard King on defense, and defensive back Clint Eakles on special teams.

The senior scholar award went to senior punter Ian O’Connor, while special teams MVP honors went to Dennis Thornton.

Marshall’s 2006 Offensive MVP award went to freshman tight end Cody Slate who earned first-team all-conference and all-freshman honors this season, while the Defensive MVP honors went to Albert McClellan who also claimed the Player-of-the-Year award after garnering Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year honors by leading the conference in sacks and tackles for loss.
