2007 Marshall Football Schedule Released
IRVING, Texas – Conference USA has released the conference’s 2007 football schedule and Marshall University’s football team is set to play the school’s most exciting home schedule ever. The Thundering Herd schedule features six home games and five of those opponents, including in-state rival West Virginia University, advanced to post-season play in 2006. In fact, nine of Marshall’s 12 opponents advanced to the post season a year ago. In addition to this the Thundering Herd will have three appearances on ESPN or ESPN2.

“I believe this is an attractive and highly competitive schedule,” Marshall Director of Athletics Bob Marcum said. “We have six home games against post-season caliber opponents and West Virginia University will be making its first visit to Huntington in 92 years. We are also pleased to have three nationally televised games on ESPN and two of those will originate from Huntington.”

Marshall is scheduled to host Gator Bowl Champion West Virginia University in the second Friends of Coal Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 8, before a national television audience on ESPN and 2006 Division I National quarter-finalist New Hampshire on Sept. 15 in non-conference action. C-USA East rival and 2006 PapaJohns.com Bowl participant East Carolina, 2006 C-USA East Division Champion and GMAC Bowl Champion Southern Miss, 2006 New Orleans Bowl participant Rice and C-USA East rival UAB will all visit Joan C. Edwards Stadium in conference play.

“This is an outstanding schedule that should excite our fans like never before and I am looking forward to seeing a sea of green at all six of our home games,” Marshall Head Coach Mark Snyder said. “I am also pleased that we have the opportunity to showcase our University with three nationally televised games on ESPN.”

The Southern Miss game will be played on Sunday, Oct. 21, to accommodate an ESPN broadcast. ESPN began placing college football games on Sundays last season and schools such as Louisville, Kentucky, Boise State, Rutgers and Cincinnati were featured in those games. All game times are still to be determined.

The Thundering Herd is scheduled to open the season on the road at ACC power and 2006 MPC Computers Bowl Champion Miami on Sept. 1. Marshall will also travel to Big East member and International Bowl Champion Cincinnati on Sept. 22 before entering conference play. In C-USA action, Marshall will travel to 2006 C-USA Champion and Liberty Bowl participant Houston, Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl participant Tulsa, and East division rivals UCF and Memphis. The Memphis contest is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 2 and ESPN national television.

More televised games are expected to be announced at a later date.

The Marshall University ticket office has already mailed out 2007 football season ticket renewals to Big Green Members and renewals for season ticket holders are scheduled to be mailed this week.
