Athletics Department Names Former Golden Gopher
George Adzick "M"Club Director
University of Minnesota Director
of Athletics Joel Maturi announced today that former
Golden Gopher George Adzick has been hired as the
"M"Club Director, a newly appointed position
that will keep former Gopher letterwinners better
connected to Golden Gopher athletics. Adzick, a
former Gopher football player, comes to the University
with more than 25 years of business experience,
most recently from a partnership with the management-consulting
firm Insight Solutions of St. Paul.
"This is a very exciting hire for the athletic
department and the University of Minnesota "M"Club,Maturi
said."George is someone who will bring vision
and leadership in an area that is extremely important
to our overall success. We want all of our former
letterwinners to feel connected to the athletic
department and remain part of the Golden Gopher
family. We are excited about the future and having
George work with the "M"Club Board of
Directors and our staff."
Adzick, a native of Eden Prairie, Minn., was a three-year
starter for the Gopher football team from 1974-76,
earning first-team All-Big Ten honors at strong
safety in 1976. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks
following his career at Minnesota and spent two
years with the Seahawk organization before retiring
from football. Adzick completed his degree at Minnesota
in 1981, shortly after taking a job with McGraw-Hill,
Inc., as an account executive. He has remained in
the business world since and has worked for various
companies, primarily in the area of business and
software development.
"I am fortunate and honored to be named "M"Club
Director,"Adzick said. "My primary task
will be to build a program that follows the exemplary
qualities of U of M athletics. With over 4,000 "M"members
worldwide, I believe our letterwinners club has
a phenomenal opportunity to impact the lives of
former and current student-athletes and the community
as a whole."
"The "M"Club and its Board of Directors
are extremely fortunate to have George accept the
position of "M"Club Director,"Diane
Achterkirch, "M"club president said. "We
are very excited about the future of the relationship
between the "M"Club, its Board of Directors
and the Gopher athletics department. The future
could not be brighter as we continue to work hard
to include and recognize the thousands of Gopher
letterwinners".
The "M" Club will hold its annual Hall
of Fame Banquet on Thursday, Oct. 19, when 12 former
Gophers will be inducted. The banquet will be held
at the McNamara Alumni Center on the Minneapolis
campus and will be the kickoff to Hall of Fame Weekend.
Inductees will also be honored at the women's soccer
match on Friday, Oct. 20, against Michigan and at
the Gophers' football game versus North Dakota State
University on Saturday, Oct. 21.
