CROOM PLEASED WITH BULLDOG
PROGRESS
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Fall semester
opened at Mississippi State Thursday and class was
in session both on the campus and on the practice
fields behind the Holliman Athletic Center for the
Bulldog football team.
MSU head football coach Sylvester Croom sent his
team through a two-hour, 45-minute workout, and
the head coach exited those drills pleased his team's
progress.
"We're getting better," Croom said. "I'm just a
little impatient with them. I like these players
and I like the way they work. I just wish it would
come quicker, but these are good people and they
are trying to get better. If we make the same progress
the next two weeks that we have made the last two
weeks, we'll be alright."
The head coach then proceeded to single out some
of his players for their recent work on the practice
field.
"Mike (Henig) is throwing the ball well," Croom
said. "And Tony Burks is beginning to make progress.
I'll tell you, his (Burks) size gives you goose
bumps. I like that I have to look up at him, and
I'm sure Mike likes his size, too.
"We're still making too many mistakes on offense,
particularly by young guys," Croom said, "but we're
still figuring out who can play in that group. All
11 on offense have to be perfect, they have to be
in sync."
Croom also had good words for his defense.
"We're getting better everyday on defense," Croom
said. "The secondary has been solid. I'm particularly
pleased with the first four. David Heard has had
a really good camp.
"And now, we've got help back there," Croom said.
"I wish we had (Demario) Bobo back (hamstring),
but De'Mon Glanton has stepped up as a big-time
hitter." |
