MSU CONTINUES TO PROGRESS; 4 'DOGS GIVEN SCHOLARSHIPS
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State head football coach Sylvester Croom
complimented his team again Wednesday, indicating it had made progress
toward next Thursday's season opener against South Carolina.
"We had a good day of work," Croom said. "My biggest criticism was that
the offense started off a little slow in the transition period, but they
finished the practice strong and that's a good sign."
The Bulldogs again worked over one hour on the outdoor practice fields
behind the Holliman Athletic Center before finishing the two and one-half
hour drill inside the Palmeiro Center. It was the transition between
outside and inside, and how the attack handled it, that concerned the coach.
"It's just a lack of concentration on the offense's part," Croom said.
"But it is a concern because we don't want that to happen in a ballgame.
We'll find ourselves playing from behind. We have to learn to get off to a
good start."
With one week left until the 2006 kickoff, Croom was optimistic, if not
pleased.
"We'll never be where I want us to be," Croom said. "But we're making
progress every day. We've asked them to get better every day, and for the
most part, they have done it."
Croom also announced that he had added four current players to his
scholarship list. Senior defensive back Marcus Evans (Starkville, Miss.),
senior fullback Casey Rogers (Henagar, Ala.), senior halfback Derek Ambrose
(New Orleans, La.), and junior wide receiver Lance Long (Macomb, Mich.) all
were given athletic scholarships beginning in Fall 2006.
