BULLDOGS TAPER BACK, WORK ON GAME SPECIALTIES
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State head football coach Sylvester Croom
sent his team through a two-hour workout Friday, a practice conducted
without pads.
"It was more of a mental practice," Croom said. "We worked in all of our
kicking situations, our two-minute drill, and overtime situations. We had
our offense come off the goal line.a lot of situations that you don't have
happen very often, but things you have to work on."
The players most likely to see action Thursday in the season opener against
South Carolina will go through the same drill Saturday. Since the game is
played Thursday, Saturday's practice will be treated as a Monday, so the
younger players will scrimmage as they will throughout the season.
"Everything is pretty much set," Croom said, "except maybe the offensive
line. I have a pretty good idea where we're going there, but I want to wait
until early next week before solidifying that area.
