Bulldog Club Volunteer Fund Drive
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Bulldog Club, Mississippi State’s athletic fund-raising organization, kicked off its first-ever Volunteer Fund Drive Tuesday, associate athletic director for external affairs Greg Byrne announced.
More than 60 volunteers throughout Mississippi and the nation will assist in the solicitation of new and existing donors for MSU athletics as part of the drive, with the goal of expanding athletic donations to the university. Volunteers will use contacts supplied by the athletic department, plus those developed locally, to bring new donors to the Bulldog Club.
Volunteers will compete for prizes and priority points as they solicit new members. They will be credited with five percent of every dollar raised as a renewal and 10 percent of every new dollar for their own lifetime giving total. Other prizes include away-game trips with the MSU football team, Bulldog athletic gear, and more.
Former Bulldog and National Basketball Association basketball great Bailey Howell, who starred at State from 1957-59, will serve as the chairperson for the 2007 drive.
Byrne oversaw a development team that initiated a similar drive at Oregon State, taking annual giving from under $1 million in 1997 to a program that now raises in excess of $12 million.
