CLINT SESSION EARNS BIG EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PITTSBURGH-University of Pittsburgh senior linebacker Clint Session
has been named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week for his
performance in the Panthers' 38-13 season-opening victory over Virginia
this past Saturday.
Session (Pompano Beach, Fla./Blanche Ely) spearheaded Pitt's swarming
defensive effort by collecting nine tackles, two tackles for losses and
a 78-yard interception return for a touchdown. He helped the Panthers
limit Virginia to 211 yards in total offense, including a mere 52
rushing yards.
Session's interception return put the final touches on the 25-point
victory and marked the first touchdown of his career. His two TFLs went
for losses totaling eight yards.
The 6-0, 235-pound Sam linebacker has been a fixture for Pitt's
defense since his freshman year. One of the hardest hitting defenders in
the Big East, Session has all-star aspirations in his final collegiate
season.
The Panthers (1-0) open Big East play this Friday, Sept. 8, at
Cincinnati (1-0). The game will be a national ESPN2 telecast and kick
off at 8 p.m.
Pitt returns to Heinz Field Sept. 16 for a noon home date with
Michigan State (1-0). For ticket information, log on to
