PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 21, 2007) – Former Rutgers standout and current Indianapolis Colts starting middle linebacker Gary Brackett will become the sixth former Scarlet Knight to play in the Super Bowl as the Colts defeated the New England Patriots 38-34 Sunday evening in Indianapolis.
Brackett, a former walk-on for the Scarlet Knights, finished with six tackles in the four-point victory over the Patriots. He is the first former Scarlet Knight to play in the Super Bowl since L.J. Smith of the Philadelphia Eagles started at tight end in Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Fla.
Brackett is in his fourth season with the Colts after finishing his final season at Rutgers in 2002. The New Jersey native appeared in 44 career games at Rutgers and totaled 274 career tackles. He was a two-time captain for the Scarlet Knights and was named team MVP following his junior season at RU.
