Former RU Standout Gary Brackett Earns Super Bowl Ring
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 4, 2007) – Former Rutgers defensive captain and current Indianapolis Colts middle linebacker and defensive captain Gary Brackett became the fourth Scarlet Knight to earn a Super Bowl ring as the Colts defeated the Chicago Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI Sunday evening in Miami.
Brackett led a stingy Colt defense with eight tackles en route to the organization’s first Super Bowl championship since relocating from Baltimore to Indianapolis.
The last Scarlet Knight to earn a Super Bowl ring was Harry Swayne in 2000 with the Baltimore Ravens. Swayne also won a pair of rings with the Denver Broncos in 1997 and 1998.
Brackett became the sixth Scarlet Knight to play in a Super Bowl and the first since L.J. Smith appeared in Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville for the Philadelphia Eagles.
