PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 18, 2007) – Rutgers is ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, released Saturday. The Scarlet Knights have been ranked in 13 consecutive polls dating back to last season, the longest stretch in school history. Rutgers is also ranked No. 16 in the USA Today Top 25 Preseason Poll. It marks the first time in school history the Scarlet Knights have been ranked in either preseason poll.
The Scarlet Knights are one of three BIG EAST schools ranked in the top 16.
Rutgers ended the 2006 campaign 11-2 overall and 12th in the final USA Today Top 25 Coaches’ Poll and the Associated Press Top 25. The Scarlet Knights defeated Kansas State 37-10 in the Texas Bowl to close out the season.
Rutgers opens the 2007 season Thursday, August 30 vs. Buffalo at Rutgers Stadium. The Scarlet Knights play eight games at home in 2007, including the first five contests of the year “On the Banks.” Rutgers was a perfect 6-0 at home in 2006.
