Former USF Defensive Back Dies During World Indoor League Game
TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2007) -- Javan Camon, a defensive back for the University of South Florida from 2001-2004, died Monday night after a head-to-head collision in a World Indoor Football League game. Camon, 25, played for the Daytona Thunder.

“My heart aches for Javan and his family,” says USF head coach Jim Leavitt. “I thought an awful lot of Javan. He had a great spirit and a great energy, and he was always fun to be around. Javan did a great job for us at South Florida both as a player and as a leader. The fact that he was elected as a team captain shows how much his teammates respected him. He will be missed tremendously by everyone who has ever known him.”

A graduate of Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte, Fla., Camon was a four-year letterman at USF and started at free safety in 2004, when he was a team captain. He had a team-high 101 tackles in 2004 among his 174 career stops.
